In June 2005, University Bank officially adopted Western Sculpture Park in Saint Paul. The revitalized park opened in 1998 and has been the target of continued efforts to keep the area safe and inviting to locals and visitors alike. Located just west of the State Capital on Marion Street, the Park features a collection of 14 sculptures including a caldron-like centerpiece by Californian Mark di Suvero, one of the country’s most celebrated sculptors.
University Bank approached Saint Paul’s Parks and Recreation Department to adopt the neighborhood gem, picking up trash to keep the Park clean. Organized by Brenda Blumenberg and Mark Poling, Co-Chairs of the Park Clean Up Committee, bank employees don bank shirts and jeans to volunteer on their own time to keep the area free from debris and hazardous materials. Over half of the banks’ roughly 40 employees have volunteered at one time or another.
“We saw a need in the community and wanted to preserve this beautiful park,” said Blumenberg. “We’ve received positive feedback from the Parks and Rec for our effort. It’s a special treat to be thanked by those using the park during our clean-ups.”
